We take for granted what’s expected of a wallet. The user account is the smallest entity that can autonomously operate on the network. It’s the tool that empowers self-sovereignty in this new digital age. But today, autonomously operating requires risk-taking, UX sacrifices and, in many cases, unwarranted trust assumptions.

Enter account abstraction. You know what it is. Multisig, gas abstraction, a seedphrase-less world. All that good stuff. But this is only the beginning. The future of account abstraction is modular, meaning that accounts are completely extensible via smart contract modules that can be built by any developer and installed by any user. This allows smart accounts to become the next open platform for permissionless innovation.

At Rhinestone, we’re building infrastructure to power a module ecosystem for smart accounts. The Rhinestone Protocol is an interoperability layer between accounts, modules and users that enables portable, secure and extensible smart accounts. We provide a platform for developers to distribute and monetize their modules, and for users or dapp developers to discover and install them.

Want to enable peer-to-peer NFT rentals without compromising self-custody or imposing ridiculous collateral requirements? There’s a module for that. Want advanced security features like auto revocation of token approvals or the ability to freeze tokens so that they can never be transferred? There’s a module for that too.
